Belwind is Parkwind’s first wind energy project and one of Belgium’s first offshore wind farms that has celebrated its 10 years in 2020. Located 49 km from shore in the North Sea, Belwind is one of the most distant offshore wind farms of this Belgian development zone.
Fifty-six turbines spread over 17 km² generate enough green energy to power the equivalent of 160,000 homes.
Belwind was one of the worlds largest wind farms at the time. It set the momentum of offshore development in the region and its scale showcased the technology as one of the best routes towards a carbon free future.
Used as a testing ground for several R&D projects including testing of the largest wind turbine at the time helped Parkwind and the industry make important steps in advancing offshore wind technologies.
