Parkwind and MHI Vestas have confirmed the completion of the first turbine at Northwester 2 in Belgium, off Jan de Nul’s Vole au vent vessel.
The 219 MW project is the first offshore wind park in the world to deploy the V164-9.5 MW turbine from MHI Vestas. The project will consist of 23 V164-9.5 MW turbines to spin 50 km off the coast of Ostend in Belgium.
All major turbine components have been assembled and pre-commissioned in the Flushing marshalling harbour with the first four turbines leaving a few days ago. Northwester 2 expect the turbine installation campaign completion during the first quarter of 2020.
Parkwind’s Project Director for Northwester 2, Peter Caluwaerts is pleased to announce the project is moving into its final stages: “The installation of the first Northwester 2 turbine is yet another testament of the project moving closer towards producing green energy for over 220.000 households in Belgium. This energy will be produced by MVOW V164-9.5MW turbines, the world’s most powerful turbines to enter commercial operation till date.”
“The installation of the world’s first commercial wind turbine exceeding 9 MW is an exceptionally proud moment for our company,” said MHI Vestas Chief Operations Officer Flemming Ougaard. “The installation of our first fleet of V164-9.5 MW turbines is an example of our company’s strong partnership with Parkwind and our passion for offshore wind technology.”
