A joint industry project, funded by several offshore wind developers to perform a variety of new fatigue lab tests on welded joints. Thereby deriving updated S-N curves and investigating the effect of potential defects in the welds.
By performing a variety of new fatigue lab tests on welded joints, especially for high-cycles fatigue, we can identify and quantify the effect of potential defects in the welds. This is particularly critical when designing windfarms with long lifetimes and avoiding unnecessary O&M costs. A great example of how the industry collaborates for the common goal of continuous design improvement.
